Missing Sergt Pilot Gates Believed Killed in German Raid
Mr and Mrs R B Gates of Weston Ontario report their son Sergt Pilot William R Gates of the R C A F is missing and believed killed in action. He likely died during a raid over Germany on December 20th. Gates, 25, born Shellbrook Saskatchewan, had lived in Austin and MacGregor and earned his wings at Camp Borden in 1941. He left for overseas June 25 with his pilot unit and is survived by his wife Jean and two flight sergeants. The Gates family have moved to Ontario while he served at Barrie and Winnipeg.

Red Cross Bonspiel Crowns Curlers for $100 Donation
Twenty two rinks competed at the Red Cross Bonspiel held at the local rink last week. E W Lamb's rink won the Grand Challenge with H A Lee's rink runner up while J L Lamb's team defeated Reg Palmer in the Victory final. Proceeds from the event plus a Turkey draw totaled about $100 for the Red Cross with the Ladies Curling Club contributing $15.00.
