Obituaries report Walter Gilbert 87 of MacGregor born in Bedford England died December at Hospital Newfoundland? He farmed 45 years, survived by Nellie and three sons, eight grandchildren. Services held January 3 MacGregor United Church. Also Mrs Ivy Shaw former resident died in St Boniface at 59. Survived by husband Alex and son Gary. Cards of thanks from Bill and Emmeline Moore and Marie Hykany and family. Classifieds list farm sales and requests for wheat oats and livestock plus Varies offers from MacGregor area.
George Currie expresses gratitude to relatives and friends in MacGregor and district for remembering him during his hospital stay and at Christmas. He thanks the W.L for the fruit parcel and wishes everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year.
I sincerely thank the organizations and all who remembered me with cards fruit and visits while a patient at MacGregor hospital. Special thanks to Dr Bostock and the staff for their kind attention.
Notice announces hearing by the Highway Traffic and Motor Transport Board on January 12 at the Court House Brandon to consider establishing a 30 mph restricted zone on PR 353 near Pine Creek RM North Norfolk. Submissions may be made at the hearing or in advance to the Assistant Secretary Winnipeg.
Lavenham residents hosted and visited over Christmas and New Year with extended family and neighbors from Regina, Winnipeg, Swift Current, Portage, and Manitoba. Several dinners and suppers occurred, including Art Wall and family from Swift Current visiting Abe Wiebe, and Bergthaler Church Choir’s Christmas concert receiving thanks from the community.
Pine Creek News reports district wishes extended to Mrs. E Tilley of Portage who is a patient in Portage hospital. New Year guests included Mr and Mrs Melford Smith and family and Mr and Mrs Charlie Anderson and Mr and Mrs Cliff Chambers and families of Austin. SE Knox visited with E Tilley on Friday. Ellen remained for a few days.

Rt Rev Norris, bishop of Brandon Diocese will lead a service at Christ Church Austin on January 8 at 11 30 am. A good attendance is requested as the community marks the occasion with regional residents hosting Christmas and New Year visits from Brandon Winnipeg and Vancouver including the Uhrin Lamb and Dunian families.
On Thursday December 21 a Christmas Concert and party was held at Austin Sprucedale School. Pupils supervised by Mrs Olita decorated the room and tree while nativity and carol singing delighted attendees. Santa distributed gifts and a lunch followed as a doll draw raised over 86 dollars for the Retarded School.
A series of upcoming gatherings in January includes a whist drive at Norfolk Manor Thursday January 12 at 8 p.m., Katrime Community Club dance January 13 with music by the Austin Melodiers, the Association for Retarded Children annual meeting January 12 at 8:30 p.m. at Sprucedale School Austin, MacGregor District History Committee meeting January 6 at 8 p.m. at Mrs J Gilroy’s home, UCW evening unit meeting January 9 at Mrs R H Harvey’s home, and an afternoon UCW church hall meeting January 10 at 2:30 p.m.
Sympathy extends to the Gilbert family on B Gilbert's passing December 31. Numerous holiday visits and gatherings across MacGregor include the Jenkins, Amann, Caskey, Giercke, Lindsay, Duncan and Hillman families with Christmas and New Year hospitality at the J Clarke, J McRae, A Giercke, and F Jenkins homes. Community events note a Katrime Club dance on January 13 featuring the Austin Melodiers.
