Community Mourns Passing of Former Choir Member

Beloved Janet Henderson Taylor aged 76 died December 26 after Christmas with family in Winnipeg. Born in Strathmigle Scotland in 1873 she moved to Canada 1911, lived in Edrans and MacGregor, and later Calgary. Survived by daughter Margaret Eadie and five sons, plus thirteen grandchildren and siblings in Scotland. Funeral held December 29 at MacGregor United Church with civic and church tributes.

Local Xmas Mail Not As Heavy This Year

Postmaster Frank Hay notes the Christmas mail volume in the local office was lighter than 1948. He counted sacks on peak days with 52 last year and 41 this year, and remarks postal staff handle the surge despite last minute mail rushes.

Chamber of Commerce to Hold Annual Meeting

The Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting and election of officers next Tuesday evening January 10. Full attendance is requested and the meeting will be in the Memorial Room at 8 p.m.

Respected Bagot Farmer Passes Away at 81

An esteemed Bagot resident Mr James Rn aged 81 died at Portage Hospital on December 28 1949 Born in Ulverston England in 1868 he moved to Canada in 1897 farmed at Glenboro and Belmont before settling in Bagot in 1816 He married Alice Mytton in 1911 and was active in the Anglican Church school trustees and community projects Surviving are Mrs Robinson daughter Margaret and a son Harvey four sisters in England The funeral conducted by Rev Bayes of Portage la Prairie Anglican Church was held from McKillop Funeral Chapel and burial followed at Hillside Cemetery bearing pallbearers listed.

Former Residents Honored At LOUE Parties

Former Britons Chapter LODE members hosted a Friday afternoon tea at Mrs. Ro. McKelvy’s home to honor George Hay and Mrs. George Little, who live elsewhere. Mrs. Hay received a Life Membership for 35 years of service. she joined in 1914 and held multiple offices. Lunch followed. WMS party later honored Mrs. Hay at Mrs. E. Graham’s home with a silver coffee spoon and affectionate remarks.
