Lonely man leaves $15,000 estate to Vancouver girls
In Vancouver in 1954 two young girls Doreen Nial and Verna Smith become principal heirs to the estate of John Nyland, who died as Vancouver’s 10th domestic casualty. Nyland named the nine year olds heirs hours before his death, with over $18,000 in real estate and bonds to be divided between the girls and a relative in England. The will delays larger payments until their twelfth birthday and provides small schooling allowances.
