Bagot and district gossip covers visits from Winnipeg guests to local families, a MacGregor bonspiel with many rinks entering, a train crossing accident killing A H Sturton near Pratt, and club meetings in Bagot H Club and 4 H and W A WMS gatherings. Reminders of upcoming dances and curling events close the column.
The Bagot Tractor Club reports a busy 1951 season with 7 clubs in Manitoba, placing fourth with 465 of 500. Oak Lake led, while the club plans bigger projects and community involvement in 1952, thanking Agriculture and Extension Service for support in their first year.
Clarence Pogue reports the Bagot Tractor Club reorganized at Elsmith School on February 4. Officers elected include President Clarence Pogue, President Ronald Kalberg, Sec Treas Bill Lawton, and committee plans for a Winnipeg trip on February 20 and a CBC Farm Broadcast visit. The club highlights a Finished Field Contest won by Don Coubrough and a Harvest Machinery Field Day with George Holmes as speaker. Also noted is a Portage fair tractor parade and plans to invite Holmes to future meetings.
Members stressed vaccinating young cattle and testing older stock with isolation. A lunch was served by members and mothers. After discussion the club sought to organize a district vaccination program and urged anyone needing calf vaccination help to contact Sid Coulthard or Ron Kalberg.
Bagot Calf Club met at the Kalbergs to map an active year. Members aim to assist farmers in Bangs Disease vaccination and will use films from the Film Council for public viewing. The group will study its Handbook, meet on the second Monday monthly, and hold special functions March 21 and April 14.
Parker or Percy Ford were discussed as speakers for the March 14 soil fertilization meeting. Mothers of club members provided lunch. Six Cais Cub members visited the Little Royal Fair in Winnipeg last week to watch livestock judging and showmanship, then toured University barns observing sheep, beef, dairy cattle, and swine. The tour also included labor saving devices and an exhibition of incicrafts at the Men's residence, highlighting welding, cheese making, insect collections, seed grains, and other displays.
