Health of nation improves says wartime NHS report

The British health ministry reported for the year ending March 31 that the nation's health was better than before the war. An influenza outbreak in fall 1943 killed 30,000, mostly elderly, with other diseases causing fewer deaths. Women saw record low tuberculosis deaths, while men rose four percent from 1938. Births reached 683,213, the highest in 15 years. The note adds the watermelon has been cultivated since ancient times.
