Farmers Face Major Grain Spoilage Risk In Canada
Canadian Wheat Board chief commissioner W C McNamara warned at a news conference that a large portion of this fall’s wheat crop could spoil before spring. An October survey indicated about 380 million bushels or half the prairie wheat was out of condition, with drying facilities strained beyond capacity. Even with on-farm drying, most damp grain may spoil if not dried promptly, as terminal dryers can handle only 100 to 150 million bushels in eight months.
