North Norfolk council approves Assiniboine Feeders site

At the Rural Municipality of North Norfolk meeting on August 3, council approved the SE% of 8-11-11W as the Assiniboine Feeders feedlot site pending approval by the Clean Environment Protection Branch. Neighbors raised dwelling proximity concerns while Bylaws moved on for a Community Centre capital cost and Lot sales.

Chamber Discusses Station and Street Extension Plans

The Chamber of Commerce regular meeting on Thursday August 5 discussed village streets and the impact of extending Ross street to Hampton at Victoria and north to the Trans Canada Highway. A plan to join the business district to the highway and hospital was proposed. The CPR station sale and purchase for conversion to an apartment block was approved for executive investigation. N Hutler reported on sign costs and financing. An executive meeting within a week and a special meeting on August 19 were set to finalize plans.

Shower Honors Diane Futros

A wedding shower was held in the lower room of Austin United Church on Saturday July 24 for Diane Futros a bride elect for August 7. Beryl Christofferson led with the Wedding March as guests arrived. Diane received a corsage from Betty Unrau and was escorted to her seat. Several relatives received corsages and were seated by hostesses S Young P Herbert and C Hotel. Frances Young and Hazell Lowe performed a ditty to A Bicycle Built for Two while Violet Lewis read a toast. Lynn and Bertha Uhrin presented gifts. Diane thanked everyone and all sang Our Best to You before lunch ended the pleasant evening.

Poyser Family Reunion Draws Kin From Far and Wide

A Sunday gathering at the Emmeline district home of the late Poyser couple drew about seventy relatives. Notables included Edwin Brassington and Norman Gantrippan from England and Elizabeth Brassington of Winnipeg. Attendees came from Roblin Portage la Prairie Balmoral Winnipeg MacGregor Rosehill and Austin. After a ball game a lawn picnic and social hour closed a happy memorable event.

Temporary Grain Payments Urged

H B Sneath, president of Manitoba Pool Elevators, urged the federal government to resume $87.6 million in grain payments held since Aug 1 1970 under the Temporary Wheat Reserves Act. The act pays storage on wheat in store above 178 million shel s. it will be replaced by a stabilization program later debated in Parliament.

Opening Quotas For Grain Announced

The Canadian Wheat Board announced the 1971 72 crop year quotas with non cumulative limits for wheat and barley to guide deliveries. Separate quotas apply to flax seed rapeseed rye and rye. Initial wheat and barley quotas cover several shipping blocks and continue through October 31 with warning ahead of deadlines. The 1971 72 year allows rye deliveries to any designated area elevator, expanding beyond flax and rapeseed.
