Education spending estimates approved amid levy debate
Manitoba education spending estimates of 160,692,200 were approved after a lengthy four day debate. Opposition led by D W Craik pressed the one mill municipal levy cut as shifting 4.2 million to the provincial share, while Education Minister Saul Miller argued no extra municipal burden would occur. Miller cited a 1.7 million surplus and higher assessments as factors and questioned the reported 1970 71 aid rise while Craik noted a smaller provincial increase compared with past decades.
