Reports mention a truck overturn near Roy Hodge's farm, four inches of snow plus ash, spring farm work, cement sidewalk talks, and odd items from MacGregor Herald about local life and humorous verses.
Easter services at St Pauls Macung Sunday include 7 pm Easter service with solos from The Messiah pieces Thou Shalt Not Leave His Soul in Hell and Know That My Redeemer Liveth. Rev M J V Shaver of Sidney preaches Easter Sunday at 1 am with special open Sunday School session and guest speaker Mr R W Obbe. Special music by the choir.
Due to heavy snowfall last Saturday night the school consolidation meeting scheduled for Monday was postponed until Monday April 17. The same speakers will attend and ratepayers are urged to keep the date open and attend.
Mr and Mrs Mulvenny, Marie and Barry, who lived in MacGregor since last August, moved last Friday to Deloraine Manitoba where Mr Mulvenny has been transferred by CPR. The group here regrets their departure as Marie and Barry were popular students and Mrs Mulvenny contributed as a valued member of the local school community. Prior to leaving they received a silver engraved coffee spoon from friends. We wish them happiness in their new home.
Alex MacDonald expresses gratitude to friends neighbors and organizations who sent parcels and remembered him during illness.
According to Mr S T Mc Culloch treasurer the local Red Cross campaign total collected to Monday was 587 00 This amount includes the Village of MacGregor and several rural points.
Betty Fox reports on local happenings including Mr John Philips installing a new heating system and visits by Mrs Frank Hewiston and Miss Jean Jones of Portage la Prairie. Marilyn Fox sustained a leg injury from skating and was briefly hospitalized before returning home.
At the Rural Municipality of MacGraM meeting on April 3 the board approved minutes from the previous session and set salary for Jos. Robinson as Weed Inspector at 125.10 per year plus 10c per mile. They authorized payments to McCulloch McLachlan, approved a land purchase bid of 400 with 100 down, and named Horace North Chief Operator. An Old Age pension application was approved and the session adjourned to Austin on April 2, 1980.
Posters announce horse and farm equipment auctions near Gospel Hall and Austin Gladstone road with cattle, cattle and household items to sell around April including 30 head of cattle and electrical appliances. Separate notices report an April 12 sale by Kilfoyle Bros and F.C. Berton Co. an important Port Consumers Co op MacGregor Branch meeting April 8 at 2 pm in Masonic Hall.
Everett Towle age six died March 27 1880 in Portage General Hospital after illness born Exeter Ontario he moved to Manitoba at 18 worked at E E Ture factory farmed MacGregor and Lavenham later. Survived by wife four sons nine grandchildren and five daughters funeral at St Pauls MacGregor March 29 with large turnout.
The family of the late James Towle thanks friends and neighbors for kindness during illness and after the loss. They appreciate acts of sympathy, car loans, flowers, and messages received.
The Roads Association outlines a new awards program limited to rural municipalities with the Union of Manitoba Shield Provincial Cup and a Ninette Diploma. Prizes honor best kept roads, cleanliness, and beautification including streets, sidewalks, trees, lawns, and garbage disposal. The campaign enlists Home and School groups to promote tidy surroundings and safer living in Manitoba.
Mr M Flattery of the Department of Health deplored faculty shortages in towns and villages for the travelling public. He said 21 sanitar inspectors were on duty across the province and praised the organization as it seeks to collaborate with the Association on campaigns to clean up and improve conditions.
Hon F C Bell minister of agriculture and immigration proclaims May 5th as Arbor Day in Manitoba. The day is not a public holiday but is designated for planting forest and other trees, with May 5th marked as the date most appropriate for tree planting in the province.
Ronnie Moore, son of Mrs. J. H. Moore, won Eaton's Good Deed Award for helping neighbors during winter. He delivered errands for Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Thompson, who were ill, refusing pay and earning a 1 jewel wristwatch and star pin from the club.
