Congress debates two western oriented measures, one to tighten cultivation in homestead proof and another to extend water-payment terms. both face House opposition from eastern and southern lawmakers though Senate support exists.

State school authorities select the inter-scholastic debate question for 1914-1915. The issue asks whether revenues from indirect sources and mult county public service taxes should fund state government while remaining property revenues fund local needs.
Saturday the Boys and Girls Literary societies and other students plus several teachers picnicked on Sumus Mountain. The Senior class visited Tuesday and dined at the summit. Alumni banquet is set for next Friday with refreshments by Domestic Science. The Senior class book The Meple sold well at seventy five cents. The last day grade picnic is planned for next Friday. Lynden cannery sold 750 cases of beans Saturday and has 650 more on offer as orders pour in.
Memorial Day will be observed in Lynden on Saturday May 30 with G A R posts and W R C members meeting at the G A R Hall at 9:00 AM to decorate graves at the cemetery. Afternoon services begin at 1 30 PM in Jamieson Opera House with a prepared program to be published next week.

The Washington Supreme Court upholds last legislature trading stamp law requiring stamp companies to pay a 6000 dollar annual license to operate in the state. Frank C Bright alias Frank Berger guarded in a city hospital since April 30 after a shooting while fleeing arrest for passing counterfeit Canadian five dollar bills has been indicted by a federal grand jury on counterfeiting charges. He is linked to a gang whose plant was seized near the waterfront and is accused of circulating counterfeit money over six months.
