Council Raises Pay of Lynden Firemen

Lynden city council approved a new compensation schedule for volunteer firemen. The chief will be paid 1.50 dollars per hour for the first hour or fraction, while firefighters receive 1.00 dollar and 0.50 for additional time. The force size was cut to keep total costs roughly the same as the previous plan.

Judge Brawley Deliberates On Lynden Laure Road Case

Skagit County judge Augustus Brawley heard the Lynden-Laurel road assessments protest and took the suit under advisement. Prosecuting Attorney Loomis Baldrey argued plaintiffs had twenty days to appeal after the commissioners set the assessments and should have filed then.

Pair of weary aliens captured by marshal

Marshal Jake Le Compte apprehended a father and son pair of weary aliens who entered from Canada. The men had walked more than twenty-five miles and were glad to get a ride back to Sumas where they were turned over to Canadian authorities.

Olympia headquarters announced Lynden veterans may begin receiving bonus payments by next week. Warrants totaling over a half million dollars in claims have already been issued and will be mailed upon receipt of funds from the bonus bond issue sale.
