7D Cross Fund Continues to Grow Daily Donations

The 7D Cross Fund rose to 2483.46 dollars this week as new contributions arrive daily. The following donor list includes numerous individuals, churches, clubs, and local businesses contributing to the fund.

Lynden Moving Picture Men Form Circuit in County

Oril and Bode, owners of the Liberty Theater, have leased Everson Opera House and the Grand at Sumas plus a show house at Bellingham. They plan a county circuit to bid for top pictures and cut costs. Headquarters stay in Lynden as they expand operations. Also notes a Baptist Sunday School picnic and Mrs. Viola Gustin’s gradual recovery from surgery in St Luke's hospital.

Lynden Dairymen Net Higher Butter Fat Prices in 1917

Lynden Creamery reports butter fat paid to local dairymen surpasses nine year average by 10.6 cents per pound. For the first five and a half months of 1917 the rate is 45.5 cents versus the 34.9 cent nine year average. The Grizzly Bluff Creamery in California shows lower or comparable returns in most years with records dating to 1894.

Lynden Coach Resigns to Enlist in Navy

Fred Rockey, Lynden High School coach and athletic director, resigns to join the United States Navy. He has enlisted in a naval company recruiting in Bellingham. John Bay and A W McCoy also join the same unit, with Bay being the son of Mr and Mrs C B Bay and McCoy serving as Glendale school principal.

Lynden Dairy Men Form New County Association

Five thousand cows of Whatcom County must be represented in the new dairymen's association for it to be a working force. Trustees Brown Sorenson Reeve Dahlquist and Rothenbuhler were named to incorporate the group and arrange membership. The plan gives the association authority to act as sales agent for the dairy men.

Lynden Chautauqua Tickets Go On Sale Next Week

Lynden prepares seven days of instruction and entertainment with six hundred season tickets. Single admissions total 8.35 for all performances, season tickets 2.50, opening day 3.00. James Goddard concert 1.00, opera The Chimes of Norman Die 0.75. Guarantors meet Monday at City Hall to plan ticket sales.

Red Cross Benefit Ball Nets 11.86

The Red Cross cleared $11.86 at the benefit dance held Friday evening in the IOOF Hall. The hall was lent to the organization rent free and decorated with flags and Red Cross emblems.

Jersey cows bring top register herd to Lynden

A herd of 20 head of fine register Jersey cows was brought to Lynden last week by P. Meenderick. The stock, purchased at the Chas Richardson farm near Olympia, includes some of the best Jersey representatives, with ten cows and two-year-olds in the shipment and the rest in young stock. All young stock is sired by Pegis Tarono of Hood Farm, from a 15,200 pound milk strain. Meenderinck plans to keep the animal himself soon and purchased a yearling bull from Hood Farm. Some of the heifers milked up to 40 pounds in their first season.

Portlad couple completes all-day drive to Lynden

From Portland to Lynden in a single day Mr and Mrs J A Leatherman accomplished the trip Sunday leaving at five am. They stopped in Everett and faced a two hour delay at Mt Vernon yet arrived in Lynden by 1 30 pm. Mr Leatherman manages the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co in Portland.

Lynden Fourth Celebrated With Picnics and Band Program

Lynden observed Independence Day with closed stores and a joint church picnic on Grover Street. The Lynden Holland band performed at Hawleys Hall in the evening, with speakers at the fairgrounds and a varied program including recitations piano duets and several band selections.

Exemption Rules For Lynden Men With Dependents

Government issued rules exempt Lynden men with dependents from military service. Exemptions include officers, clergy, divinity students, U S military or naval personnel, aliens, local officials, workers in federal arsenals, pilots, merchant mariners, and those with dependent-related status. Claims require affidavits from dependents and heads of families, with boards verifying support mainly from the man's labor.

Whatcom County Banks Show Deposit Gains

Whatcom County banks report a total $17,574.11 rise in deposits since May 1 per government call on June 20. Individual gains include Ferndale $189, Everson $2,742.14, Blaine $2,693.03, Lynden $21,243.80, with county totals: Blaine $282,082.06, Custer $47, $17.48, Everson $106,890.89, Ferndale $202,278.05, Lynden $360,230.00, Sumas $152,725.67.
