Steamer Uranium Strands on Reef Near Halifax
The Uranium of Uranium Steamship Company bound from Rotterdam to Halifax and New York ran aground on a reef near the Chebucto headlight nine miles below Halifax in thick weather. The bow remained above water late in the afternoon, seven fathoms under midships and 17 fathoms at the stern. No lives were lost. 880 passengers were rescued by the government steamer Lady Laurier and harbor craft and landed in Halifax.
