The Whatcom County Fair Association will hold its annual election of officers in Aretreeners Hall on Tuesday January 19 at 2 pm. Plans for the 1915 fair will be discussed. Present officials include Edson Edson president W H Wa Ples vice president George Frick secretary P M Serrurier treasurer B C Crabtree T H Smith Nels Jacobson W H Jackman and Gerrit Vander Griend trustees.

Secretary Howell ordered a signature verification process as required before certification to the legislature opening January 11.
The signed contract for a 600000 acre state and federal land exchange arrives in Olympia from Secretary of Agriculture Houston. Houston will request Congress for 50000 to implement the agreement. The pact was drafted by Attorney General Tanner and the Interior Department in Washington and approved by the state land board.
Lynden farmers will attend the Dairymen's Association of Whatcom County meeting in the Bellingham Chamber of Commerce rooms at 1 p m Saturday to hear a trustees' report.
The first fire drill was held Tuesday night under direction of A A Bauman, chief. Practise will continue every two weeks to improve efficiency as many gathered on the streets expecting a real blaze.

Kent’s Miss Beatrice Hat stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sorensen from Thursday to Sunday. Local families hosted Christmas guests in Seattle and Laurel. A New Year social at Laurel Grange Hall featured games, music, and a watch party.
Lynden will host a debate with Blaine on February 5. The local team will present the negative of the single tax question.
For the first time the post office is enlisted in a charity to send food to Belgium. Donors mail non perishable goods in 25 to 50 pound parcels, stamps refunded by the American Commission For Relief In Belgium. Collectors in this district include Spokane, Seattle, and Walla Walla firms.
Peter Dekker, 51, vanished while fishing below Lynden bridge on Saturday morning. His body was recovered from eighteen feet of water around four o clock. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon with Rev. Breen officiating. He left no will. He is survived by nephews D. B. Dekker and B. Kolff of Lynden.
The Rev P H Davies of Brush Prairie was appointed minister of the Lynden Baptist Church by the trustees on their annual meeting. Officers chosen include Mrs S M Bayes as trustee, J D Scrimger, Mrs Rachel A Smith, B E W Bayes, Lillian Sprague church clerk, Pearl Tucker treasurer, S S Superintendent, Pearl Tucker Asst Supt, Percy Bayes secretary, and Nellie Oakes organist. Davies arrives with a strong church background and favorable impressions.
The note records a Jan 2 meeting with small attendance and plans a joint installation with post No. 42 on Jan 12. Mrs Mabel Beach to act as installing officer and dinner to be served. Comrade Wilcoxson’s condition is reported as failing.
Twenty fire department members were removed from the rolls Monday evening for non attendance. They retain the right to reinstate themselves at a later date.
Reports from all departments and early circulars to appointees inform the governor’s preparation of the annual message to the legislature. Estimates of appropriations and new legislation ideas are being gathered and weighed by the executive prior to the joint House and Senate reading.
The council met Friday night January 1 for the regular meeting and adjourned until Wednesday because of the holiday.
A passerby narrowly avoided a fall when the floor sagged a full foot at R. L. Averill’s jewelry store last week. Investigation revealed rotted building supports and joists, leading to a total replacement of the entire floor on Tuesday.
A potash plant to extract fertilizer from Puget Sound kelp will open in Bellingham this month. A Nooksack cannery receiver dispute lists liabilities of 12000 and assets of 1000, while the cannery says debts are under 1000. The Nooksack Cooperative Cannery reports flourishing affairs and owes less than 1000.
The Whatcom County delegation will advocate in the legislature for a uniform ditch regulation law covering all county ditches to standardize governance and oversight.
Coal Creek Mill near Kendall has started up under a cooperative plan. Mill B of the Bloedel Donovan Company at Lake Whatcom reopened this week with a full crew of 250 men.
A. E. Turner of North Side High School in Bellingham reports 1914 rainfall at 32.71 inches with 113 clear days 188 partly cloudy days and 64 cloudy days. Average wind 6 mph maximum 86 and minimum 16 with mean 51. In 1913 rainfall was 34.79 inches with 121 clear days 165 partly cloudy days and 89 cloudy days. Average wind 8 mph maximum 85 minimum 12 and mean 60.
All mills on Bellingham Bay will be working Monday morning. Three have already reopened and the rest are getting ready to start. Whatcom County appears more prosperous than ever.
Three Ferndale burglaries Tuesday night hit a drug store a jewelry shop and a pool room. Thieves took films fountain pens and cigarettes totaling about 110 dollars.
Governor Lister names E. T. Coman of Spokane and Wm. A. Ritz of Walla Walla to the Board of Regents at Pullman to fill vacancies left by Lee A. Johnson and Peter McGregor. Remaining directors include J. C. Cunningham, R. C. McCrosky, and Senator David S. Troy.
A sale of the late Arne Kronendonk’s estate in Sumas drew many Lynden residents. High cash prices were paid for stock, implements, and household articles. Attendees from Lynden included Guy Dyksterhuis John Burgraff Peter Burgraff and many others. George Bostwick served as auctioneer.
The council voted to widen West Main Street bridge to twenty feet roadway. A. J. Rusco urged that sixteen feet would not suffice, and the expansion was approved with little extra cost. The meeting marked end of terms for Gerrit Van Leeuwen, George Bostwick and B. Oldemeyer, with successors to be installed Tuesday.

Lynden Relief Corps No. 20 in the Department of Washington and Alaska names Lynden organizers Madeline Bay Mabel I Beach and Kate White as first trustees. Articles of incorporation were filed with the county auditor on Wednesday to aid veterans widows and orphans and promote patriotism and equal rights among local children.
