Lynden voters will choose a successor to H E Stuart at the Lynden High School ballot Saturday March 3. Ed Edson, appointed by County Superintendent Miss Ethel Everett to fill the unexpired term, will run for the office and is noted for long service and contribution to Lynden schools. Any citizen may vote without registration.
Lynden faces Harmony Friday night in the high school gym to decide the county basketball championship. If Lynden wins the title, Harmony has been undefeated against others, including Harmony. Three games are scheduled starting at seven with Glendale facing Lynden's second team and Harmony’s second squad vs Lynden grade school.
Farmers Mutual Telephone Company asks patrons who habitually ask for the bank or the creamery over the phone to look up the numbers before calling. The company believes better service will result and reports a ready supportive response from users.
Whatcom County Guernsey Breeders Association will meet at the Laurel Grange Hall on Saturday February 24 at 10 a m to discuss plans for a testing association and other matters of interest to Guernsey breeders. All interested in Guernsey breeding are invited to attend.
Mrs W F Follis visited from Bellingham as did Eva Pearson. O E Reed family from Lynden visited. Glendale boys basketball set to play Lynden Seconds Friday. Delta Township schools held a spelling match with Lottie Jes of Woodland scoring high and Surgrid Lindberg of Sunrise in second. County tryouts will include township reps. The Farmers Mutual Loan Society met at the schoolhouse last Tuesday. A Sunrise community gathering is planned for February 23. Genevieve Abbott and mother are recovering from measles. Jay Lancaster operated on Friday in Bellingham and is recovering well.
Elsie Schuyleman received a certificate from Underwood for typing speed of 42 wpm. Edith Gilliland leads a patriotic program February 22 with the school orchestra and songs. Arvid Benson presents George Washington life, Percy Bayes discusses Abraham Lincoln. County championship hinges on Friday night gym game against Harmony.
Lynden merchants plan a state wide Trade Marked Goods Week starting February 26 to showcase nationally advertised products sold locally. Shoppers will see the benefits of quality backed by manufacturer guarantees and local merchant support. A window display judging contest with cash prizes will reward top presentations and photographs of the displays will be entered in the contest. Details will appear in The Tribune.
North Bellingham girls won a debate decision over Lynden high school on military drill in schools. Lynden representatives Edward Kamm Carroll Worthen and Charles Kamm presented strong arguments from training and study. Mazilla King a former Lynden student spoke for North Bellingham.
Everson and surrounding communities report visits and movements. Mrs W Sprague hosted by Mrs George Sharp in Sumas. Adlam and son George from Bellingham visited Everson. Larson couple welcome a son born Wednesday. Iverson couple visited George Todd’s. Scott couple spent weekend in Bellingham. Bullocks head to Crescent ranch. Lottie Buchanan staying with Sam Bridges in Bellingham. Hugo Biehle leaving for Soap Lake for several weeks. Bernard De Neuf from Lynden visited sister Mrs William Warren. Mrs Will Jacobs and Mrs George Frick announce a George Washington tea for Lynden ladies at the Frick residence Front St Wednesday afternoon Feb 21 The Ladies Aid of the M E Church hosts the event and invites all district ladies to attend.
The corps met with thirteen officers, praising Chaplain Kelsey’s recovery. Mourning is shared for Silas Bradley, with sympathy to Sister Bradley. Lauretta Rinehart returns from Libby Montana and will recite. Visitors Helen Smith and Mrs. Detwiler are hoped to attend often.
Idaho Senator William E Borah argues for U S noninvolvement in international alliances. He asserts that alliances threaten sovereignty and could draw the nation into conflicts without proper cause. He urges a policy of neutrality and caution in entangling alliances.
The speaker warns that joining a world peace alliance would threaten the republic. He urges Washington’s policy of no entangling alliances and no European meddling, advocating preparation to protect citizens and focus on domestic social and industrial issues. He rejects mediation that involves European involvement.
Delta Township will hold a township primary election on Wednesday at Hoffman Hall to nominate candidates for the general election in March. Only qualified electors may vote, and those not registered or with lapsed registrations must stay away. officials include Frank Weidkamp, O. E. Wilson, and A. W. Wheeler.
Mrs B V Mounter elected president of the Lynden Public Library board at the annual patrons meeting. Mrs A Dunker named vice president and Mrs J C Beach secretary treasurer. Librarian Mrs Krause retained. The library closed the year in stronger financial condition, with $107 in treasury from a dance. Books will be added each month.
All linemen of the Farmer's Mutual Telephone Company will receive five dollars a month more to meet rising living costs, with the Sumas lineman earning an additional ten dollars. Directors plan to add an extra story to the Lynden building and will invite construction bids next month. Mrs. W. H. Jackman hosted a birthday dinner for Mrs. Will Kelly. guests included the S. T. Jackman, W. H. Jackman, Will and Salva Kelly families.
A proposal to release 1000 to 1500 Chinese pheasants annually in Whatcom County will be reviewed at a sportsmen meeting in Bellingham at 8 o'clock. Fishermen and hunters from Lynden district are invited and many will attend. The gathering is under the Whatcom County Game and Game Fish Protection Association.
The speaker rejects vague postwar peace schemes and argues the U S should champion a new model governance. He urges Americans to back people powered democracy in Europe and oppose alliance with monarchies while shaping a true foundation for peace through people control of international relations.
Governor Ernest Lister will sign the bone dry bill passed by the Senate, making Washington absolutely non alcoholic after June 10 if no referendum is invoked. The measure prohibits importation or sale of liquor except for sacramental medicinal or mechanical uses. Only three Senate votes against the bill came from Spokane County.
The Mikado performed by the Oxford company Friday night in Jamieson’s hall pleased the audience. Solo and chorus work delighted the crowd. The event was part of the high school lyceum course and another good number by Mrs Davenport-Engberg and other artists is promised this month.
North Prairie residents record visiting friends and relatives at numerous homes including the Bartelds Cramer Verduin and Crabb tree households. Sick lists mention Carl Jacobson and Virgie Clarke while others attend Ladies Aid events in Lynden and nearby towns.

Dairy production in Whatcom County for 1904 reached 150000 dollars. M Dermody moved onto the old MacPherson farm. W K Pixley of Bellingham visited Lynden this week. J D Scrimger became a salesman in Lynden Mercantile Co drygoods.
Whatcom County may use county funds to aid the Lynden Whatcom County Fair under a bill moving through the legislature. Introduced by Gorham of Snohomish County, the measure awaits third reading and final vote with anticipated approval. If enacted the county could contribute up to 7500 dollars for fair support and maintenance.
Members of the Order of Knights of Pythias plan a large jubilee in Lynden on Monday evening to mark the lodge’s 53rd founding. More than 150 guests expected with wives and Python Sisters invited. P. M. Serrurier will discuss the institution’s history, Rev. Paul Ashby on lodge insurance, and Rev. P. H. Davies on Python Sisters.

Jack Gale’s image of his son holding a mudhen and two cats at arm’s length won a place in a curiosity column in an Eastern magazine this month and Gale received a prize for the picture.
