Hearing on Everson-Van Buren Road Petition Set

The County Board of Commissioners will hold a 2 PM hearing on the Everson-Van Buren Road paving petition. The proposed improvement would cover an assessment district spanning Nooksack Township and multiple sections in Townships 40 and 41, including R 4 E and R 3 E, with sections listed for inclusion.

Lynden District students awarded achievement pins at county rally

Lynden Ferndale and Everson youths received four leaf clover pins for club work during the Whatcom County Achievement Clubs rally. Ed Kamm of Lynden was re elected president with Laura Clarkson and Henellen Harrison of Ferndale named as vice president and secretary treasurer. The county club profit totaled 5520 62 from products valued at 9193 37 after expenses of 3618 81.

Dairymen Meet in Lynden During Graduation Week

Lynden hosts Whatcom County Dairymen's Association meeting at Hawley's Hall with a 1 p m start. J A Scollard of the United Dairy Association will discuss progress in higher milk prices and a Fraser Valley Milk Producers Association leader is invited. The event includes musical numbers.

Pythian Sisters Hold County Convention in Lynden

The annual county convention of the Pythian Sisters convened at the I. O. O. F. Hall in Lynden with over one hundred members from across the county. Sixteen candidates were initiated. Lynden Chapter hosted a dinner and a dance in the evening.

Burns at construction site injure Skagit crew member

Ingvold Knutzen, a Skagit Construction Company crew member, suffered a severe burn to his left hand Monday while starting a fire in a large concrete mixer. He was treated at the scene and released.

Funeral services held for Mrs Annetta Whipple in Lynden

Friends gathered Saturday afternoon for funeral rites for Mrs Annetta Whipple conducted by Rev George Brundage of Bellingham with remarks by John Hartley of Sumas. Interment was Lynden Cemetery. She died at her Northwood home after five years of paralysis. Born January 28 1855 in Illinois she lived in Illinois Minnesota and Wisconsin before marrying G H Whipple June 22 1865. She is survived by her husband five sons and six grandchildren.

Seniors Win First Honors At Interclass Track Meet

The Senior Class won the interclass track meet Friday afternoon at the Grounds. Juniors took second and Sophomores third. Individual winners included Fred Hatley with multiple firsts in high jump and shot put events, Frank Hatley in javelin, discus, and sprints, and Sprague in the mile and 440.

Young People’s Society Program At Church

The Young People’s Society of the Christian Reformed Church presented an evening program at the church. George Rammerman opened, followed by essays from John Brink and Marius Vander Griend. A debate on prison purpose featured John Van Dusen, John Orange, Ernestine Zweetman, and Eddie Kok. Musical numbers by Marie Zweegman, Johann Breen, and Louis Helder were enjoyed.

Mrs Jamieson and daughter visit H H Jamieson home

Mrs. Charles Jamieson and her daughter Es telle have spent the winter in California and Portland respectively. After a month long visit at the H H Jamieson home they depart for their Minnesota residence.

Call for bids for new Lynden Bridge across Nooksack River

Lynden area authorities schedule a Tuesday bid opening at 2 pm for a 2006 foot Lynden Bridge on Hannagan Road. The span will be 20 feet wide with 24 to 26 foot approaches using existing piers to cut costs. Work to begin after Lynden Laurel paving advances, with decking of 4x4 and removal of current ironwork to other county sites. Also, bids for Old Channel bridge and Lummi River Bridge will be opened the same day.

Boy Scout Enrollment Reaches 35 With Younger Group Separate

Rev W O Benadom scout master reports 35 scouts after excluding six under age 12 from registration. Younger boys will remain in a separate patrol until eligible for tenderfoot tests. A regional enlistment drive runs May 1 through May 30 seeking associate members to support local and allied youths. Benadom appeals to patriotic citizens to help neighborhood boys alongside international relief efforts.

Lynden paving to open for traffic next Saturday

J. C. Hills county engineer inspected Lynden paving this week and announced it would be opened to traffic on Saturday. He will supervise the project including sidewalking of 8th and Edison Streets.

Funeral services for the late C P Knapp were held Sunday afternoon at one oclock at the Knapp Funeral Parlors conducted by Rev W O Benadom. The body will be taken to Brandon Wisconsin for burial.

Kensington Club Ladies Entertain at Jamieson Home

Mrs H H Jamieson and Mrs Charles Philo entertained Kensington Club members and husbands Friday evening. Rooms were prettily decorated with daffodils and a luncheon followed after five hundred. Guests included Mrs Laura Lee Miss Daisy Keene Miss Althea Horst and Dr E P Spearin of Bellingham.

Moultons Visit Worthens in California Trip

Mr and Mrs C N Moulton guests of Worthen family this week they reside East Charleston Vermont their old home. They drove from Vermont to California in a Ford. Lynden Masonic Lodge members attended impressive initiation ceremonies in Bellingham Thursday with Gov Hart delivering an address.
