Registration Of Voters Ends Friday In Texas Counties

Friday marks the final day to register to vote in the November 2 general election in Lubbock and surrounding counties. Citizens 18 and older may apply at the county tax office or other venues. postmarked mail registrations must reach the office by Friday. Absentee voting begins October 13 and runs to the fourth day before election day.

Ford approves 4.83 percent federal pay hike

President Ford signed a 4.83 percent average pay increase for about 2.6 million federal civilian and military workers. The Oct. 1 effective raise costs roughly $2.5 billion and excludes members of Congress judges and top officials earning above $37,800. The aim falls short of the unions demand for 8.2 percent, with GS-5 clerical staff rising to about $9,303 to $12,093 yearly.

Insurance bid protest over school district program
