FBI arrested Yeoman First Class Cornelius Drummond 33 in Larchmont New York on espionage charges for transmitting Navy security manuals to Russian UN delegation officials. Prosecutors say he traveled to New York on Aug 13 and Sept 7 and 11 classified documents plus a miniature camera were found in his car trunk.

Tragic cave in at Lamesa sewage project claims worker

Juventino C. Herrera, 38, an employee of Ramsey Enix Co., died from suffocation after a 21 foot shaft at the new Lamesa disposal plant cave in eight by three feet. Rescue teams cleared dirt to recover his body after hours, and his wife Irene learned the tragedy only when the body was removed. Herrera had lived in Lamesa briefly and burial is planned in New Braunfels.

The 45th Panhandle South Plains Fair starts with ATON twirlers spotlighted and a visit by John Connally the Democratic governor candidate. Kennedy Names New Treasurer

President Kennedy named Rep. Kathryn Granahan of Pennsylvania as treasurer of the United States. She would succeed Elizabeth Gatov who resigned last April to return to California and campaign for Gov. Edmund G. Brown. Granahan, first elected to complete her late husband’s term, was re elected to two more terms. The White House said the nomination would go to the Senate on Saturday.
