Osorio Claims Error In Indictment Led
John Osorio said the Travis County grand jury would not have issued a rubber stamp indictment against him in the Texas stock scandal if District Attorney Bob Smith had pursued the case. He posted $10,000 bond, was photographed, fingerprinted, and released. Osorio, then president of National Bankers Life Insurance Co in 1969, cited an alleged false entry by Don Akin as the error, and suggested Akin's location was unknown.

Levelland Man Charged With Robbery by Assault
A 21 year old Mexican American man, John Medina, was charged in Levelland with robbery by assault for the Sept 1 hijacking of Delton Young. He also faced narcotics possession charges and was held on a $5,000 bond. Medina, a four month Levelland resident, had earlier been sentenced to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine for destruction of county property after escaping authorities. He was arrested after failing to present a driver’s license to an officer.

Tank Burst Slays Six in East Texas
A rust colored steel tank nine stories high holding nearly one million gallons of water burst Monday in East Texas. Six workers were killed and 11 injured as chunks of steel and water rained down. The final two bodies were recovered at sunset, six hours after the collapse, with water cascading like a dam breaking.

Post Fire Destroys Wacker's Store At Local Mall
A Monday evening blaze at a Post variety store began shortly after 6 p m and engulfed Wacker's completely leaving only a brick shell. Fire crews from Post and neighboring towns including Tahoka Slaton Crosbyton Lubbock Spur and Jayton fought the flames until about 9 p m. An adjoining vacant building and Lavelle Shop were damaged by smoke and heat.
