Scientists Plan Record Deep Drill Into Antarctica Ice
Army scientists aim to drill a six inch bore 14g miles into the Antarctic ice at Byrd Station to obtain ice cores spanning 30 000 years. The NSFs program with the Defense Department involves 150 scientists and about 60 field projects during the 1967 1968 Antarctic summer funded at 7 7 million dollars with Navy logistical support.
