Farm Act Extension Seen On House Floor This Week

A one year extension of the 1965 Agricultural Act is likely to reach the House floor Wednesday. The compromise farm bill keeps cotton feed grains and wheat programs through 1970 and may face resistance from lawmakers seeking a ceiling on federal payments to individual farmers. A separate food stamp bill also advances with potential expansion to 315 million this year and 340 million next year. John J. Seibert, Texas extension expert, is transferred to College Station as grain marketing specialist. A Panhandle fair cotton booth will display textile tech and PCG programs to 25 000 cotton farmers.
