Thunderstorms lashed the South Plains causing torrential rain and hail across Hart Idalou Olton and surrounding farms. Gusts reached 37 to 52 mph at the airport with 4 hundreds of an inch of rain measured and 5.2 inches on the Ofton area. One Green residence barn wall stood while others were blown apart and windows screens and siding were damaged. The storm moved 3 to 5 pm with drifting hail along roads and reports of irrigation shed overturned.

Cotton Club Razed by Fire Near $30,000 Loss
The Cotton Club owned by Ralph Lowe at 4001 39th St. was destroyed by a Saturday morning blaze that started after remodeling. Firemen fought the furnace like flames from 16:11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and estimated losses at 25 000 to 30 000 with partial insurance. The rear and front sections were left standing, and a roof collapse occurred soon after arrival. The cause is under investigation.
