Registration for the fall semester at Texas Tech will be held Tuesday and Wednesday with 8 to 12 a.m. and 1 30 to 5 p.m. in the gymnasium. Photos for ID will be taken free at registration and a physical exam report or medical fee payment is required.

Hidalgo county engineer Henry Grittn reported the Rio Grande flood was receding rapidly at the Hidalgo county line and Mercedes. Roads reopened south of Paarr and from Hidalgo to Revnoga. About 200 workers guarded levees from Progreso to the Hidalgo county line. officials saw little danger of damage in the lower valley as a new rise moved downstream toward the gulf.
Hale Center records show 315 students enrolled this opening week, 205 in grades and 110 in high school, down from 355 last year. Superintendent Mile rear cites bus route extensions in rural districts as the reason for the decline.
Four suits totaling 46 480 seek damages from Dr. Charles J. Wagner in 99th district court. Plaintiffs J W Hodges and four sons James 20 David 18 Howard 18 Calvin 18 seek damages for injuries and deaths of Mary Katherine Hodges and Mary E Hodges in a highway collision near Lubbock. Claims include $5 000 for funeral and $150 for subsistence as to Mary Katherine and $10 000 for David with $450 medical bills, $10 000 for Howard plus $850 medical bills, and $5 000 each for the four Hodges boys for their mother’s death. San Antonio hosts the 37th annual United Spanish War Veterans convention with about 10 000 visitors expected. Delegations arrive including a Massachusetts group of over 100 on a special train and 30 delegates from Colorado. Prominent arrivals include Rice W Means William J Otgen Mrs Otgen and Charles W Newton.
A thief looted the parked automobile of salesman J. L. Byson in Palo Alto, stealing a haul of 12 cases of soap. The incident appears to reflect a pattern of cleanliness-minded thefts.

Twenty six thousand Odd Fellows lodges across the United States will join a coast to coast radio broadcast on Tuesday night September 17 through 95 stations. CBS provides time and network free in a major fraternal event with speakers including Senator M M Logan and other lodge leaders. The program starts at 8 30 pm Lubbock time and lasts 30 minutes with music numbers.
Lorenzo, Sept. 14. Every faculty member is a former student of Texas Technological College. The district starts its scholastic term with about 100 in high school and 225 in the grades. Twenty two units are offered, including vocational agriculture and home economics.
Grover C McMakin announces a new Odessa Lubbock Brownfield route with two daily services. Connections from Odessa link to Lubbock via Brownfield and Seminole, with times to Crane and McCamey and return schedules including night and morning departures.
Humble Oil and Refining Company completed installing a standard drilling rig at No 1 C C Slaughter south and east of Bledsoe and Lehman in Armstrong County. Drilling began shortly before midnight after 210 feet reached. plan to switch to standard rig at 2000 feet and reach 5000 feet unless oil or gas is found. A block of 11 447 acres is involved with Charles Pearce of Lubbock showing interest.
Edith Redding 23, married a month, is charged with murder for shooting her husband Jimmie Redding 28 after he refused to say where he went. She claims she shot to scare him over alleged infidelity. Redding formerly worked in insurance and was taken to Winnsboro for burial.
Paris France July 14 General John J Pershing turned 75 Friday and marked the occasion with subdued ceremonies arranged by the American colony. He unveiled a portrait and a Lot for friends at Pershing hall and spent the afternoon with a small gathering in his apartment.
