The United States will veto Vietnam's bid for United Nations membership over Hanoi's failure to provide information on Americans missing in Indochina. Sharon Ryan, 32, testified at 140th District Court that she deliberately tried to murder her seven year old son last November by lacing a milkshake with benadryl and keeping him all night as he convulsed. The United Auto Workers warned Monday that a nationwide strike at Ford is highly likely despite concessions on reducing work time. UAW President Leonard Woodcock put the odds at one in 100 to avoid a strike by 170,000 Ford workers at the midnight deadline, saying an agreement before then is absolutely impossible. Ford negotiator Sidney McKenna echoed pessimism as talks recessed without a schedule for resuming negotiations.
U S Secretary of State Henry Kissinger arrived in Zurich on an overnight mission to halt what he calls a race war in southern Africa. He warned against expecting dramatic final solutions while carrying proposals to end black white conflict in Rhodesia South Africa and Namibia.
A Dimmitt man, 45 year old Melvin Lewis, suffered multiple injuries when his Piper Pawnee light plane crashed about 7:40 p.m. eight miles south of Dimmitt. He was crop dusting, the crash occurring within half a mile of his home. He remained conscious and was treated at Plains Memorial Hospital in Dimmitt before transfer to Methodist Hospital in Lubbock.
