The August wholesale price index is expected to surge with farm prices rising over 20 percent and the overall index exceeding 5 percent, officials say. Officials warn the figures are unofficial projections and anticipate adverse effects from rising food costs after the July 18 price freeze lift.

The Lubbock National Weather Service office unveiled a WRS100-5 radar replacing a 1942 model. The $126000 system, with 250 nautical mile range, speeds storm plotting by 90 percent and adds a range height indicator and video processor. The old radar, moved to Texas Tech, assisted weather forecasting since 1954.
