South Plains cotton crop outlook grows on rains

The September forecast from the Lubbock Cotton Exchange and Plains Cotton Growers Inc. pegs 23-county output at 2,139,000 bales, making it the region’s third largest on record. The bumper crop could gross growers about 520 million dollars, with 278 million from lint and 12 million from seed, driven by mid August rains and robust irrigated fields. Weather through frost will determine final yield and quality, while dryland cotton in the southern area has declined in recent weeks.
