Slaughter of 42 Chamorro Civilians in Guam Murders

Associated Press report describes 42 Chamorro men found slain near a jungle road in Guam. Victims, ages from about sixteen to elderly, were bound, bayoneted or sword-slain while civilians and not seen in combat. A Marine patrol discovered the grisly scene.

Lubbock General Hospital reported Barbara Butler 5 in serious but hopeful condition as polio. she became ill Wednesday and was taken to hospital Thursday for diagnosis Friday. Dr J W Rollo urged sanitation to curb breeding grounds for flies and mosquitoes. Four new polio cases were reported in Plainview this week including Bobby Dowd 8 Donald Looney 2 Clifford McGuire 40 and Mrs Tom Smith 19. other cases dismissed.

WLB authorizes paid vacations on armistice day

The War Labor Board approved requests to grant paid vacations on the day an armistice or peace is declared with Germany. The first approved application came from the Retail Merchants Association of Muskogee Ohio covering 50 to 60 retailers, banks and other Muskogee industries.

District Courts to Open September Term in Local Court

District Judge J. E. Vickers will open an eight week September term of the 99th district court here at 10 o clock Monday morning. The term runs until October 28 with no grand jury. District Judge Dan Blair will hear civil jury cases in the 72nd district this week at 1:30 Monday afternoon. Four cases are set for trial including three compensation suits and one damage suit.
