Governor Laney Ships 103-Pound Watermelons to Colleagues

The report notes Gov. Ben Laney promised to send 100-pound melons to each of the 47 other governors. Hempstead county, famous for a 195-pound world champion melon in 1935, sent the first four melons weighing 103 pounds each to the governors, with 43 more en route. Separately Fujimoto downplays a broader suicide wave after the surrender, citing perhaps a dozen suicides at the imperial palace.
