Best Yet First Bale Ginned In Lubbock County

The first bale of the 1961 cotton crop was ginned Thursday at Canyon Gin on Acuff Road from Robert Melcher farm, about 144 miles south. Roy Forkner’s plant paid 50 cents per pound. 505 pounds finished bale from 2,200 pounds seed cotton. Melcher noted irrigated conditions and called this the best crop yet in Canyon and Lubbock County.

Rocket blast rips baggage car near McLean

Crash Kills Area Man in Big Spring

Andrews 38 year old Horace Newton Holcombe died when thrown from his car in a rear pickup truck collision at 12 57 pm Thursday in Big Spring. Fellow Andrews man J R Fontenot 62 was in critical condition Thursday night in Malone J Hogan Hospital. Holcombe moved to Andrews four years ago and was a pumper for Standard Oil.
