Best Yet First Bale Ginned In Lubbock County
The first bale of the 1961 cotton crop was ginned Thursday at Canyon Gin on Acuff Road from Robert Melcher farm, about 144 miles south. Roy Forkner’s plant paid 50 cents per pound. 505 pounds finished bale from 2,200 pounds seed cotton. Melcher noted irrigated conditions and called this the best crop yet in Canyon and Lubbock County.
