Police Nabs Minutemen Plot Suspects and Weapons

Police raided multiple locations in New York and nearby states arresting 20 men and seizing bombs guns rockets and bullets in a pre dawn operation. District Attorney Nat H Entel identified the Minutemen as planning to attack private camps in New York Connecticut and New Jersey. He said the group aimed to disrupt hunting season and destroy camps while claiming anti Communist and anti liberal motives. Suspects were charged with conspiracy and anti weapons law violations and one man was linked to a Roosevelt Long Island leaflet campaign about white race hate. He noted the arrests involved a broad manhunt across Queens Long Island and upstate areas.

Two Utterly Tragic Heads-On Crash In Floyd County

In Floyd County two QUITAQUE residents died in a head-on collision. The crash and its immediate aftermath are reported on Page 10 Sec A. The accident adds to a somber slate of regional transport incidents this week.

Inaugural Arid Lands Symposium Preludes Texas Tech Inauguration

Arid lands study and regional drought issues headline a day long symposium at the Municipal Auditorium in Lubbock. The event precedes Dr Grover E Murray’s inauguration as Texas Tech eighth president on Tuesday. The program features 1 000 guests from nearly 200 colleges and universities and includes a noon luncheon for 4 000 attendees. Fatal crash near Childress leaves six dead in wreck

An automobile crossed the center line on a curved highway near Childress injuring several and causing six immediate deaths with two more dying later. Victims include Ella Foster Burkley 36 and Marcelis Holman 91 among others from Wichita Falls and Quitaque. Several others were seriously hurt and one in Memphis reported leg and head injuries. A Wichita Falls hospital said one carload returning from a football game was involved in the crash occurring about 287 miles east of Childress on U.S. Highway 287.

Airman shoots man during burglary attempt at Sherman home

A Perin Nie Force airman shot a man who tried to break into the home of his stepfather Willie TV in Sherman. The wounded man, Loren Haynes, was taken to Methodist Hospital and later released to police for possible charges of attempted burglary.

Pet lion killed at Caprock Town Zoo after mauling incident

A 200 pound lion named San described as a pet attacked Bill Slate a Texas Tech graduate student at Caprock Town zoo biting his neck and thigh before being shot in the head by Ray Folsom. Investigators said Slate was showing the animal to D&A imports and Hermosa reptile and wild animal farms representatives when the attack occurred.
