A 4 year old Slaton man, Marvin M. Gebert, was struck and killed by an eastbound car while walking along Farm Road 1585 and crossing U S 84 near southeast Lubbock County. Gebert died at the scene about 7 40 p.m. The DPS said he walked south on 1585 then crossed 84 toward Slaton. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace F H Bolen. Services pending at Englands Funeral Home in Slaton. Gebert's death lifts 1972 county traffic fatalities to 42. County and South Plains totals for the period were 101 and 46 respectively.
A 32 year old Lubbock man was arrested Sunday morning in a case involving the death of Calvin Vernon Sexton 28. Sexton was found critically injured in an alley and died at St. Marys Hospital about an hour later witnesses say he was struck and dragged by a car from his own driveway. The suspect is expected to be arraigned before a justice of the peace today. Services for Sexton are set for Tuesday at W W Rix Chapel with burial at Resthaven Memorial Park. He was a native of Becton and had lived in Lubbock 20 years. He attended Lubbock High School. Survivors include his wife a son a daughter a brother two sisters and his mother.
