A survey shows college educated voters shifted toward Ford as Carter’s stance taking drew criticism. In late August a 64 34 percent vote said Carter avoided clear positions and ducked issues to avoid offense, while 57 32 percent believed he did not take firm stands on domestic and foreign policy.
David Elton Owens, 26, faces trial this week in the $35,000 gunpoint robbery of prominent west Lubbock couple Mrs. E B Hills and husband. Prosecutor Alton Griffin leads the case. Travis Shelton will defend. A second suspect was not indicted. A stolen credit card and a missing $35,000 ring figure in the case. The Hills were left bound in their home after the Feb 25, 1975 incident.
Kissinger said Vietnam accepted a U S proposal to open talks on normalizing relations and test the waters. Hanoi seeks reconstruction aid while Washington cites precluded aid due to violations of the Paris peace agreement.

Several government agencies will close today in observance of Veterans Day. City Hall and county courthouse in Lubbock will close along with all federal building agencies. Post offices will suspend window service and mail delivery for the day. Some mail will be available in mailboxes. State offices banks and savings and loan associations will observe the holiday. Veterans of Foreign Wars posts will also be closed.

Sightings near Arkansas Highway 7 and dragging a log on a chain raise fears of vehicle collisions and property damage. Authorities value Barbara at 25000 dollars and say the animal is gentle but frightened, complicating capture efforts.
Continental Airlines at Lubbock Regional Airport faces a 17 000 daily loss if the pilots strike continues. About 1 086 ALPA members walked out Saturday after failed federal mediation. Nationally all Continental flights are cancelled through Tuesday and local offices will stay open for two weeks as rerouting proceeds.
A new Pacific cold front moves southeast from the Northwest toward the Gulf of Mexico. Panhandle and South Plains residents expect cooler, breezy weather by Thursday with lingering showers and temperatures near the 60s in Lubbock.
U S Catholic delegates at a Detroit convention urged bishops to consider liberal reforms including optional priestly marriage and women’s ordination while maintaining church limits on birth control and abortion. Delegates also favored ending automatic excommunication for divorced Catholics who remarry, with mixed reactions from church leaders.
