Grandson of Barkley hijacks plane to Cuba

Space Ferry Fails To Ignite In Edwards AFB Test

A prototype aerospace ferry named HJO lost engine ignition during its first powered flight at Edwards AFB California. Pilot Maj Jerauld Gentry landed the wedge shaped craft safely on a dry lake bed after an eight mile glide. Engineers report one rocket barrel burned briefly while others failed to start. Higher tests planned to reach 80 000 feet to simulate space station returns.

Model of Eclipse windmill to stand in Lubbock courthouse

A scale model of the Eclipse windmill with an official Texas Historic Marker will be placed in the new east wing hallway of the Lubbock County Courthouse. Commissioned by the County Commission and the Lubbock County Historical Survey Committee, the windmill replica will have a rail enclosure and a sandstone base and memorialize the old watering trough on courthouse grounds.

Months Toll Lightning Wills Five In Texas

Turbulent weather during September accounted for five deaths and 856000 in property damage across the state, the Weather Bureau reported Wednesday. Lightning killed five and injured three while tornadoes touched down on five separate days without casualties, damaging property valued at 228000. High wind with thunderstorms added about 88000 in losses, the bureau said.
