Two South Plains residents died and three were injured in a rain slick two car crash on U S 82 about one mile west of Plains at 6 15 pm Thursday Justice of the Peace Hoyt Starling pronounced Troy Lee Black 19 of Denver City and Jeart Wayne Dawson 22 of Brownfield dead at the scene The injured included Jowell Trout 17 and Tony Winn 18 both Plains and Jimmy Dawson 20 Brownfield All were taken for treatment with Trout and Winn undergoing surgery at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock Dawson listed in fair condition at Yoakum County Hospital in Denver City The DPS said one car skid broadside Investigators found debris 114 feet from the scene The fatalities bring Yoakum County deaths for the year to four and total South Plains highway deaths to 94 Services for Black and Dawson were pending Barrett Funeral Home Plains.
