U S Industry Output Edges Down As Inflation Fears Persist

Submarine Alvin Sinks During Launch Off Cape Cod

The 23 foot Alvin miniature submarine sank in 4500 feet of Atlantic water 120 miles south of Cape Cod during a launch operation. No one was aboard. The Lulu catamaran and Gosnold supported the dive at Hydrographers Canyon while Alvin inspected buoy moorings. The mission followed its earlier recovery of a lost nuclear bomb off Spain.

Lubbock Council weighs film age classifications

Absentee voting starts strong for Nov. 5 election

Absentee balloting opened with 52 votes cast at the Lubbock County clerk’s office and 1 211 ballots mailed to voters. The mail total nears the pre presidential election level, while Slaton box shows no ballots returned. Eligible voters out of county or ill may vote absentee. Texas servicemen abroad qualify via federal postcards. Balloting begins Monday for newcomers to Texas between 60 days and a year in residence who applied for special ballots between Sept. 5 and 20.
