Tropical Storm Evelyn nears Bermuda packing 50 mph winds as it moves north at 25 mph. Center passed over Bermuda with strongest winds east of the island. no immediate landfall reported. Evelyn is the fifth tropical cyclone of the season, monitored by the National Hurricane Center.
A weak cold front touched Lubbock with cooler air and light northeast winds but should not affect Texas Tech vs Rice at 7 30 p m. Kickoff temps expected in the low 60s, dropping to mid 50s by game’s end. No rain expected through Sunday. winds up to 10 mph on the South Plains.
Attorney Jack Stoffregen, a former assistant district attorney and Texas Tech graduate, weighs a Democratic primary bid against freshman State Rep. Salinas for Lubbock east side district 75-B. Stoffregen says his decision will come in a few weeks as Salinas seeks re election in 1978.
G Marbut of San Antonio will deliver the keynote at the Texas Journalism Education Council dinner at Texas Tech University in the University Center Lubbock Room. The two day meeting includes five sessions, a luncheon, and a business meeting led by Norris Davis of UT Austin. Ralph Selimeyer and Wayne Danielson hold leadership roles at Texas Tech and the council.
