Odessa special report says Johnny F. Meadows 34 was charged with murder in the November 5 1968 slaying of Dorothy Smith 56 owner of a Monahans Motel. A Ward County grand jury session was set for 9 a.m. to consider the case. Meadows also faced an Ector County grand jury later today on two additional murder charges.

Bank holdup turns deadly as trooper slain in Michigan
In Niles Michigan a suspect who robbed the First National Bank of Southwestern Michigan of 38000 dollars minutes earlier shot and killed state trooper Steven DeVries 33. Police used dogs helicopters planes and posses to track the killer after the getaway car was found in a ditch near the Indiana line. State police say they believe the bank robber and the trooper killer are the same man.

Five Year Revenue Sharing Plan Sent to Senate
The House approved a Nixon administration revenue sharing program by a 265 to 110 vote directing over 30 billion dollars in federal revenues to states cities and local governments. The plan funds a five year program with half the first year allocation of 2.65 billion released after Nixon's signature. One third to states two thirds to local governments for defined uses including public safety environmental protection transportation health recreation libraries social services and capital expenditures.
