Tigers Rally To Clinch Series As Detroit Celebrates

Detroit fans flooded the city with horns and tossed toilet paper and paper debris after the Tigers clinched the championship with a 4 1 victory over the St Louis Cardinals. Bill Freehan caught a pop fly to seal the win after Detroit won three straight games. Teary fans praised the team and Mickey Lolich led the charge in relief wonder.

Paving bids approved for 80 block city program

The Lubbock City Council authorized bids on an 80 block paving program covering about 80 blocks of streets and 35 blocks of alleys with plans to open bids on November 7. Project cost nears $500000 and most work will occur in residential areas.

Two Texas Ministers Reported Missing in Liberia

In Africa two East Texas Assembly of God ministers are reported missing after a plane from Monrovia to Cape Palmas did not arrive. Rev. J T Davis of Waxahachie says he was informed Thursday night in a long distance call that the aircraft was overdue. The missing ministers are Rev B J Manley of Whitehouse and Rev J B Parson of Bascom.

Allies Seize Red Caches Near Saigon

U S soldiers guarding Saigon with a Viet Cong defector uncovered two large Communist ammunition caches within 20 miles of the capital, totaling 55 Russian rifles 750 grenades and mines 8000 rounds and 150 82 mm mortar rounds. Nine miles northwest of Saigon 82nd Airborne paratroopers found two more caches with Viet Namese part‑time soldiers and national police.

Woman Killed After Struck Near Naval Air Station

Corpus Christi, Texas. Peggy Johnson, 31, died from injuries after being struck by a car while walking along a road near the Naval Air Station. Officers said she apparently stumbled into the car’s path Wednesday night.
