1800 Battle to Halt Blaze and Hijack Shock Cuba

A Detroit to Havana flight hijacked by a man with a hair trigger pistol forced landing in Miami with 46 aboard. Richard Dixon, 31, of Pontiac, fled before arrest. Separately, a huge California blaze near Santa Barbara killed four and destroyed homes, expanding across canyons with 1,810 firefighters and air tankers battling the flames.

Dallas Area Deaths Slayings Probe To Use Computer Analysis

Investigators and psychologists including volunteers with psychic claims are analyzing data on four disappearances and murders in West Texas. After three years of clashing clues, Dallas County computer input will link weapons, murder times, scene evidence, victim profiles, moon phases, and weather. Two West Texas officers joined by Sheriff Clarence Jones in a joint effort to crack the case.

Dream Fulfilled at Groundbreaking for Lubbock State School Pool

Gov. Preston Smith and state and local leaders attended a ground breaking and dedication ceremony at Lubbock State School. The new indoor pool, to cost about $60,000, will be state property upon completion and financed by the State School Committee of the Lubbock Chamber and Support Unlimited. Proceeds from the 1970 Coaches All-America game and donations funded the project.
