An all male jury will hear prosecution testimony at 9 a m in El Paso in the murder trial of Dolphus Jack Brown. The panel was impaneled at 2 35 p m Tuesday after two days of examination. Judge William E Ward ruled the jury may not separate during the trial.
The defense and prosecutor discussed jury custody in the non capital felony case of a 26 year old suspect charged with fatally bludgeoning his parents near Shallowater on April 18, 1967. Nearly 50 witnesses have been subpoenaed as juror selection continues with voir dire and expected two day state case presentation.
Severe weather swept Texas from Panhandle to Gulf with tornadoes and golf ball to fist sized hail. Crosby County farmers report extensive crop damage especially soybeans and grains near Cone Lorenzo and Balls. No injuries recorded though vehicles and homes suffered dents and mud sprays.
An Army division commander in Vietnam cancelled the rule requiring troops to salute in rear areas or be sent to the front. Pentagon officials said the Army sees it as a local command matter and the decision now rests with General Abrams. Maj. Gen. Charles P. Stone had issued the policy for the 4th Infantry Division, prompting behind the scenes efforts to end the dispute.
Thousands of militant students and antiwar labor demonstrators fought riot police in Tokyo Osaka and Nagoya. Police reported 413 persons injured as clashes disrupted major urban centers.

Protests broke out in Washington's northwest Negro district after a white policeman shot and killed a Black man. A major fire burned, storefronts were damaged, and rioters pelted firemen before riot police restored order. One firefighter inhaled smoke. no arrests or other injuries reported. Tear gas used sparingly.
University of Texas philosophy budget panel voted 7-4 to reconsider and 6-5 to extend Larry Caroline’s contract by one year starting September. Chair Irwin Lieb opposed the extension and offered to resign. Dean Silber said resignation unnecessary. President Hackerman declined to overrule.
A light plane crash near Austin killed Lubbock County Attorney Fred E. West and pilot Dale Johnson of Lubbock. A third Dallas passenger may have been aboard. Rescue teams on rugged terrain 14 miles northwest of Austin found two bodies. wreckage of a green and white Cessna 310 was located in a ravine after contact with FAA officials. West, 32, and Johnson were identified by papers at the scene. the plane belonged to Bil Averitt and Co. West was a partner in the construction firm.
Pentagon reports Vietnamese coastal guns struck the US destroyer Furse with a direct hit wounding three sailors. No fatalities among the crew. The destroyer fired 24 rounds in return but poor visibility hindered damage assessment. Two near misses also occurred.
