The deputy director of the American Medical Association told Lubbock reporters a national health insurance program likely will not start before 1962. Paul R. Donelan said Congress shows almost no interest due to costs as hearings continue in Washington. He predicted the Carter administration would reveal its plan next spring or summer, while noting AMA support for a federally funded medical care program but not the Tedee proposal.
Plains Weather Improvement Association plans year round weather modification across Hale Swisher Lamb Castro Floyd areas after local election denials. The group obtained permission from the Texas Department of Water Resources to advertise intent to apply for the permit, with notices to run three weeks in target area papers.
Witnesses describe a bar meeting, a split crowd, and a wallet theft with a switchblade, while Briones claims an accomplice took the wallet and left the victim near oil wells. Police report Briones arrested inside Stone's car after 4:20 a.m. Dec 31, with the missing man identified later by family.
