Levelland slaying suspect held amid dock strike talks progress

Levelland authorities charged 2 year old Patrick Ramirez with murder in the stabbing death of Mrs Myrle Carlisle. Ramirez an escapee from Buena Vista State Reformatory also faced rape charges and a robbery accusation. Police tied him to other crimes and described a tense city amid dock strike negotiations.

Turmoil In Pontiac State Prison Injures Six Guards Six Inmates

At Pontiac State Penitentiary Illinois a prison yard fight among about 200 inmates left six guards and six inmates injured. Two inmates were shot in the legs by a guard during attempts to quell the melee and a fire damaged the north cell block. Investigators planned a full shakedown of the facility.

Attendance record falls as Panhandle fair closes strong

The Panhandle South Plains Fair wrapped a record week with 291 519 total attendance and a one day peak of 61810 at Fair Park on its final day. Performances by Merle Haggard Bonnie J Owens The Plainsmen and The Strangers drew large crowds with hubs around 10463 for Haggard over two shows. Additional events included Jose Alfredo Jimenez Lucha Villa and La Marincha group drawing 3846 spectators and fiddlers contests top winners Orville Burns and Bill King.

Missing City Woman Prompted Statewide Police Notice

Elizabeth Perryman, 26, a city waitress, vanished after leaving the Toddle 59 cafe on 34th Street Tuesday night. Her husband Van Perryman, who drives for City Service, reported the cafe locked and no sign of her. A prior call to a taxi company worker placed her at 9:15 to 9:20 p.m. Perryman moved to Levelland with their three daughters while search continues. She is described as 5 foot 4 to 5 foot 5, 105 to 110 pounds with black hair.
