The Associated Press reports a heated rift within the Coast Republican Party. Tensions rise as factions clash over leadership strategy and policy priorities ahead of upcoming elections.
The evacuation and arrest of Col Abdul Hamid Serraj, a former vice president of the United Arab Republic, occurred as Syria and Egypt split. Serraj allegedly led subversion against Premier Mamoun Kuzbari’s revolutionary government after returning to Damascus shortly before an army revolt. In Egypt, Nasser warned of a grave crisis while Cairo pressed exile and deportation measures.
Washington picked up word from Jose Miro Cardona head of the anti Castro Revolutionary Committee that Fidel Castro plans to execute prominent members of the captured invasion force at pigs bay. He cites reliable information including the fate of his own son among those to be tried.
