Festival 76 Bicentennial Extravaganza Opens At Fair Park
Today at the fair features a full schedule with livestock, horse and sheep shows starting at 9 a.m. in the livestock and swine arenas. The Twisting Festival runs on the west side women’s building, and Bicentennial entertainment occurs on the outdoor stage with an aerial act. Nell Sedaka performs in the coliseum, and an All Youth Rodeo tops the day. Exhibits fill all buildings with prize animals, a Children’s Barnyard, rabbit and tropical fish shows, and the merchants’ building displays.

A federal jury in Del Rio Texas convicted Dallas men William McCoy Hill and Sterling Blake Davis Sr of conspiracy to export illegal shotguns to Mexico in a raid freeing 14 American prisoners at Piedras Negras jail. Billy Jack Blackwell was acquitted. a third defendant was found not guilty on all charges. Fielden testified he masterminded the raid financed by Davis. The defendants face prison terms up to seven and five years respectively. All remain free on bail as sentencing is set later.
