Gunmen Held In Trinidad Hijack Venezuela Airliner

Gunmen led by a woman terrorist hijacked a Venezuelan domestic air liner en route to Caracas and forced it to land at Port of Spain Trinidad. Six hijackers were arrested and to be returned to Venezuela. The plane carried 17 aboard and all non hijackers returned to Venezuela. Venezuela charged Cuba with arming the terrorists and vowed action under the OAS. The hijackers wore Armed Forces of National Liberation uniforms.

House Leaders Move To Bypass Civil Rights Rules Panel

House leaders opened two moves to sidestep the Rules Committee over Johnson civil rights legislation. One would bypass the panel entirely, the other strip Chairman Howard W. Smith of control of the 11-member group. The aim is a showdown early next year after Johnson urges action and a delay in adjournment.

Stuck 16 foot Piston Defies Blast at Milwaukee Plant

In Milwaukee the 16 ft long piston jammed between two metal plates at Logemann Brothers presses resisted dynamite after half a pound and then a full pound of explosive were detonated on Thanksgiving Day. The blast blew out about 24 windows, caused about $4000 in damage, but no injuries. The piston remained stuck.

Cold snap grips Texas as heavy rain pounds many areas

A strong cold front swept Texas Thursday bringing gusty winds and soaking rain. Temperatures were set to plunge to near 20 degrees in Lubbock and the Panhandle with statewide cool, fair conditions expected Friday. Rainfall across North Central and Northeast Texas topped several inches, with Brownsville reaching 70 degrees the day before.

Train Collides With Pickup In Post Killing Driver

A Santa Fe freight train struck a pickup at the E 15th Street crossing in Post, killing Charlie Sparks 61. The truck welded to the engine required cutting torches to enter the cab. Engineer M M Tumlinson said he did not see the truck. Sparks’ funeral is planned at Hadrian Funeral Home. The crash adds to the year’s local traffic deaths in the 23 county area.

Kennedy Thanksgiving at Kennedy Keyes Reunion in Hyannis Port
