Five fugitives including a condemned killer and two murder suspects escaped from Galveston County jail using a pen knife and pistol after overpowering staff. They took a deputy, a man, a woman and her 13 year old son as hostages and stole at least three cars as the manhunt stretched toward near the Apollo 12 astronauts homes. One inmate was captured hours later. others remain at large and dangerous according to Sheriff Joe M. Taylor.
