Two Die In Plane Crash Near Stanton

A single engine Piper Tri Pacer crashed 14 miles east of here killing two occupants. Joe Shirley 46 of Midland and William Lindsey 29 of Stanton perished. The wreck lay near a cotton field by a dirt road five miles west of Stanton. Shirley was believed to be piloting. investigators could not confirm. The plane had taken off from Midland Airpark at 6 p.m. on an easterly flight. The bodies were taken to Arlington Funeral Home in Stanton.

Space Capsule Caught By Plane

An Air Force C-130 Hercules recovered the Discov erer capsule on its first pass about 500 miles northwest of Honolulu near Tern Island at 13,000 feet after a 26 hour space flight. The event marked the first witnessed aerial recovery of the capsule with the capsule packed for return.
