Charles Conrad Jr and Alan Bean made two extra inspections in the lunar lander Intrepid following an unexplained electrical surge at liftoff. Mission control traced the drain to a switch. batteries and telemetry were monitored while crews checked for damage and a possible lightning strike.

Molb Routed By Police Gas Bombs In Washington Protest

Police used tear gas to break up a 3,000 strong rock throwing march toward the South Vietnam embassy. The clash left 13 arrests, damaged windows, and continued into the morning as demonstrators tried to rally in Dupont Circle. The Mobilization Committee reaffirmed non violent aims while some militants waved Viet Cong flags on Embassy Row.

20 Mexican laborers returned to Mexico from the border

Immigration officers Friday repatriated 20 Mexican laborers who had entered the United States illegally at Hidalgo and were transported back to Mexico aboard a migrant removal operation.

Robbery at 3602 Avenue Grocer Shot by Masked Bandit

Tom Moseley, 48, was shot in the right leg and robbed of an undetermined cash amount at his grocery on Avenue 3602 around 11:30 p.m. A masked young bandit entered, declared a stickup, and fled after firing. Senate approves draft lottery plan to reach Nixon goal

The Senate Armed Services Committee backed a House passed bill to allow the President to implement a draft lottery. Laird said the random selection would begin within 45 days after signing, with 19 year olds targeted in 1971 and main burden delayed to the second year. The measure repeals a law restricting executive order draftees and would expose eligible men to the draft for one year amid a date based lottery system.
