Israeli navy vessels sank a boat carrying Palestinian guerrillas and captured two other craft near Sidon Lebanon. One Palestinian was killed, 12 captured, including two wounded, with no Israeli casualties reported. The clash occurred as Christian Lebanese vessels intercepted a freighter bound for Sidon.
Martin Vasquez 20, of 2602 29th St., was found stabbed to death in a vacant lot near 1508 16th St. Police ruled it a homicide and seek witnesses as detectives pursue leads. Vasquez, a construction laborer and Lubbock native, left two daughters and a large family. Services are pending.
The Midland shooting near the Whiting residence on October 30 left Monte Whiting dead after a confrontation with DPS trooper R W Howie and Deputy Sheriff Joe Payne. Whiting’s widow claims the gun was empty and that he did not fire. An autopsy found shots to the arms and chest. officials kept details limited pending a grand jury investigation.
